second chance program
creating brighter futures for the previously justice involved
making re-entry possible
A New Leaf’s Second Chance program provides assistance to those being released from prison into Maricopa County and previously justice involved individuals residing in Maricopa County. Following their release, participants are given access to a variety of supportive services by A New Leaf.
In order to qualify for a housing subsidy, participants must be enrolled prior to release and complete a “Roadmap to Housing” class while serving their time. Upon release, all participants must maintain contact with A New Leaf staff to have their weekly housing payments approved.
Participants are also connected to services that lay out detailed action steps of how they can gain fingerprint clearance cards, how to disclose their status on job forms and in interviews, and how to overcome other common issues in employment, housing, and education.
With critical support, and a comprehensive foundation of additional support services, A New Leaf is giving people exiting prison a second chance at life. A New Leaf prioritizes veterans for certain programs.
The Second Chance program is part of an effort to demonstrate the impact of assistance on recidivism of individuals exiting the prison system and is on the cutting edge of national models for reducing crime. A New Leaf prioritizes veterans for certain programs.
