A Lifelong Commitment to Service

After over 50 years of dedicated service, Michael Hughes will retire as CEO of A New Leaf in 2026. Michael’s leadership has been the heart of our organization, guiding us through pivotal moments of growth, change, and community impact. As he approaches this significant milestone, we want to reflect on the lasting legacy he’s created and share what lies ahead for A New Leaf.

Michael’s journey with A New Leaf began long before his official tenure as CEO. His work spans decades of leadership, not only within the organization but also across various sectors of Arizona’s education, nonprofit, and housing landscapes. His approach has always been rooted in a deep belief in service, collaboration, and creating lasting solutions to complex community issues.

Through his leadership, A New Leaf has expanded its reach and impact, providing critical services to those facing homelessness, domestic violence, and other crises. Under Michael’s direction, we have grown into an organization that not only meets immediate needs but also works to provide sustainable solutions that transform lives.

From serving as a guiding force in the Maricopa Regional Continuum of Care Board to his work with the Arizona State University Lodestar Center, Michael’s influence stretches across the state, shaping how we support and uplift vulnerable communities. His leadership has ensured that thousands of individuals and families receive the care, support, and resources they need to rebuild their lives.

Looking Toward the Future

As Michael prepares for his retirement in 2026, we’re also looking toward the future of A New Leaf. We are excited to announce that the search for our next CEO is actively underway. This is a critical time for the organization as we plan for a seamless transition while ensuring that our mission remains strong and vibrant.

Our search for Michael’s successor is being guided by a dedicated committee, and we’re focused on finding a leader who shares Michael’s commitment to service, community, and collaboration. We’re seeking someone who will carry forward A New Leaf’s mission, fostering an environment of compassion and accountability, and expanding our reach and impact in the years to come.

The new CEO will be formally announced at our 2026 Camaraderie Gala, Michael’s final one, marking not only his retirement but also a new chapter in A New Leaf’s history. This celebration will honor Michael’s extraordinary contributions and set the stage for the future of our organization, ensuring that A New Leaf continues to serve and support our community for generations to come.
