Camaraderie 2026
A Night in New York – Honoring Michael Hughes
Hello friends!
Because of you, this year’s Camaraderie Gala was something truly special.
On March 28, more than 580 supporters gathered at the Grand Hyatt Scottsdale Resort with one shared purpose: to make life better for families across our community. And you did just that. Together, you helped raise an incredible $1.2 million, ensuring that individuals and families facing homelessness, domestic violence, and other serious challenges will have access to shelter, safety, and a path forward.
That impact is because of you.
This evening was also a meaningful moment in the history of A New Leaf. As we celebrated the mission you make possible, we honored CEO Michael Hughes as he retires after a remarkable 50 years of service. His leadership has shaped countless lives, but it is your generosity that has carried that vision forward, year after year, family after family.
With leaders like Governor Katie Hobbs and Congressman Greg Stanton in attendance, the night reflected something powerful: when a community comes together around a shared purpose, real change happens.
Because of you, more than 15,000 of your neighbors in need will find stability, hope, and the opportunity to rebuild their lives this year.
We are so grateful to our sponsors, donors, volunteers, board members, and every guest who made this evening possible. You are the reason this mission moves forward.
With immense gratitude,
McCall Schnepf

50 Years of Service and Leadership:
The Legacy of Michael Hughes
For 50 years, Michael Hughes has shown what steady, people-focused leadership looks like.
At this year’s Camaraderie Gala, that legacy was clear. Following remarks by Chairman of the Board Peter Eberle and Foundation Board Chair Mark Schnepf, Michael took the stage to reflect on five decades of service in a moment that felt both personal and shared. What stood out most throughout the evening was how people described him: compassionate, steady, and someone who brings people together.
Those who have worked alongside Michael often point to the way he leads. He listens, connects people, and keeps things moving forward without making it about himself. Whether in difficult community conversations or everyday interactions, he stays focused on doing what’s right and supporting the people around him. That approach has shaped A New Leaf over the years, always keeping the focus on helping individuals and families move toward stability.
As Michael shared what the last 50 years have meant to him, it was clear this work has never just been a role. It has been a lifelong commitment to serving others, and that impact will continue through the people and mission he leaves behind.
Impact Story: From Survival to Stability at A New Leaf
For decades, A New Leaf has been a place where children and families can find safety, support, and a chance to move forward.
Staff who have been part of that work for years describe an approach rooted in respect, consistency, and care. From the early days of a small, highly therapeutic organization to the programs that exist today, the focus has remained the same: creating a safe environment where people can begin to heal and rebuild. It starts with meeting immediate needs, but it doesn’t stop there. The goal has always been to support the whole person and walk alongside them through their journey.
For those who have experienced A New Leaf’s programs as children, that support often meant everything. Many came from situations shaped by instability, trauma, and survival. One of those children was Xander, who came into care after growing up in an environment where survival often meant going without basic needs. With support, consistency, and people who believed in him, his path changed. Today, he is married with four children and works to support families and advocate for others, a reflection of what can happen when someone is given the opportunity to move forward.
We invite you to watch the video to hear these stories directly from the people who have lived them and to see the lasting impact of this work in their own words.

“This year’s Camaraderie Gala was a powerful reminder of what we can achieve together. Record support, record attendance, and a shared commitment to helping others improve their lives. It is the perfect way to mark my 50 years of service as CEO and look ahead with confidence as I retire.” – Michael Hughes
