A Day of Service and Impact

ABC15 recently covered a powerful day of service at A New Leaf’s La Mesita Family Shelter in Mesa: the annual Day of Action led by Alpha Chi Omega sorority sisters from Arizona State University. On August 13, 2025, more than 185 women joined together to support survivors of domestic violence with educational programming, a hands-on impact project, and a generous donation.

For over a decade, Alpha Chi Omega has partnered with A New Leaf to provide both time and resources in support of families rebuilding their lives. The sorority has donated more than $150,000 and dedicated tens of thousands of volunteer hours. Each week, members volunteer in La Mesita’s afterschool program, lead donation drives, and raise awareness about the realities of domestic violence. Their annual Day of Action is the pinnacle of that commitment, bringing together the entire chapter for a morning of learning and giving back.

“It’s inspiring to see the next generation lead with so much heart and purpose,” said Dana Martinez, Director of Domestic Violence Services. “Their energy and compassion make a real difference for the families we serve every day.”

Standing Together Against Domestic Violence

Domestic violence continues to affect countless lives. Nearly one in four women and one in ten men in the U.S. will experience some form of abuse. For families served by A New Leaf, the support of Alpha Chi Omega offers more than just a day of service; it represents solidarity, hope, and the reassurance that the community cares.

Alpha Chi Omega’s commitment runs deep. As chapter president Allison Scharf explained, “These experiences have helped our members develop a deep love for service and a strong commitment to raising awareness about domestic violence, an issue close to all of our hearts.”

By showing up year after year, the women of Alpha Chi Omega are leaving a legacy of compassion and advocacy. Their dedication empowers survivors, strengthens families, and reminds us all that ending domestic violence requires the work of an entire community.
