A Legacy of Service
In 1971, Dorothy B. Mitchell and Larry M. Simmons joined together to address challenges of substance abuse among students at Mesa Public Schools. They called this new effort, PREHAB, which stood for Prevention and Rehabilitation.
The program grew over the years, adding residential programs for boys and girls, outpatient behavioral counseling, domestic violence services, housing and shelter, financial empowerment, foster care, education programs, and many other services.
As a nonprofit leader in the Phoenix area for 50 years,
A New Leaf is dedicated to providing people facing crisis the resources needed to succeed in life and cope with the challenges they experience. A New Leaf’s mission of “Helping Families, Changing Lives,” now serves more than 30,000 people annually, from Apache Junction, to Phoenix, to Surprise.
